Photos Of A Vlt (very Large Telescope)
While not very clever, the acronym for VLT stands for very large telescope, and these very large will take photos of space that are utterly amazing. The Very Large Telescope will consist of four 8-meter which can work independently or in combined mode.
In this latter mode the VLT provides the total light collecting power of a 16 meter single telescope, making it the largest optical telescope in the world. The four 8-meter supplemented with 3 auxiliary 1 meter may also be used in interferometric mode providing high angular resolution imaging. The useful wavelength range extends from the near UV up to 25 microns in the infrared. That why the photos taken by the VLT (Very Large Telescope) hold tons of promise for astronomers all over the world.
Basically, what the VLT will provide to the astronomical community is the ability to see faraway objects closer than any other telescope and the photos that will come from a very large telescope, like that which are produced by the ESO Company would be like no other photos obtained from a telescope anywhere. The VLT was is a very exciting prospect in the world of astronomy.
The VLT will be over 12 times more efficient than the 2.2-meter telescope for survey work. When it goes into operation some years from now, ESO will consolidate its front-line position in wide-field imaging capabilities.
Since the VLT isn’t yet fully functional, getting photos as of this writing is not possible, but developers of the Very Large Telescope are confident that this is the new wave in astronomy and will provide us with pictures that even the Hubble can’t provide. Essentially what the developers want to do is duplicate the imagery of the Hubble Space Telescope only from Earth instead of space.
Is this technology that we really need? Absolutely it is! With the failure of many of the Hubble’s cameras as well as navigation systems, we won’t be able to get a manned space flight into space to fix those problems until sometime in 2008. With the production of the VLT (Very Large Telescope), we will be able to get photos of space without depending on the Hubble which is non-functional as of this writing.
Manufacturers of the VLT (Very Large Telescope) are confident that the photos that they can obtain from this device will be just as clear and just as revealing as those that are taken from the Hubble Space Telescope. It’s just a matter of time before we begin to realize the advantages from the VLT.
